We can change Kentucky.
We start this new enterprise with the words of Governor Howard Dean from his statement of candidacy, Common Sense for a New Century:
We must renew our commitment to better inform ourselves and others; to question our elected leaders; to conduct a dialogue with our neighbors; and to vote in each election.
For many of us who came to support and work for the Dean campaign, our participation was an act of renewal, a homecoming to grassroots politicking. For others it was a first call to political action. For all of us, the Dean candidacy was a campaign of hope and change; a wake-up call to remind us that the issues and concerns we face as a country come down to the bare rock of people trying, as we all must do, to make change for the better.
We believe that although Howard Dean’s campaign for the presidency has ended, our efforts to change Kentucky (and Kentucky politics) must continue. We hope that you will join us in this movement.
The goals of Change for Kentucky are: Voice, Votes & Victory
What Change for Kentucky will accomplish:
Howard Dean and the people who supported him have started something bigger than a campaign. We hope you feel the same way and are interested in continuing.
Our hope is that those of you who have been active volunteers for Howard Dean—hosting Meet-Ups, making phone calls, coordinating visibility events, and writing all those letters—will continue to take a leadership roll in this movement for change.
And like the Dean For America campaign, this movement depends upon grassroots support and energy. Do not wait for permission to get involved!
TELL US WHAT YOU THINK! What does Change for Kentucky mean to you? How can we make change, and where should we start? Can we change politics in Kentucky? The comments section is open…
Over the past four weeks, the organization we built around the campaign of Howard Dean has made an important transition. We've gone from a nation-wide movement to change a presidential race to a local and statewide grassroots movement to change Kentucky, one neighborhood and one conversation at a time.
On April 17 and April 24, you have an opportunity to do something extraordinary: you can change the face and the direction of your County Democratic Party for the next four years. To make this change, PLEASE ATTEND, VOTE and RUN in the upcoming Democratic Party Precinct Elections, happening this Saturday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. at your polling place.
Becoming a precinct leader in your county is a first step towards making YOUR voice count in the Kentucky Democratic Party. We have an opportunity to grow the party, to bring new blood into the leadership and to demonstrate to Democrats that real Change for Kentucky comes from the grass-roots up!

We can make this happen. The potential for real change in Fayette County rests in our hands. On April 17, let’s see what we can do.
The first Frankfort meeting of Change for Kentucky will be at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, April 7 at Sara and Jim Call's house at 119 E. Third St., one half block east of Capital Ave. (phone 227-2566) Wednesday's agenda includes:
1-planning for the precinct conventions on April 17th and
2-setting future goals for the Frankfort chapter.
The Lexington meeting of Democracy for America/Change for Kentucky occurs this Wednesday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. at the Central Public Library downtown, 140 E. Main St.
This is a very important meeting, and our first "MeetUp" since Gov. Howard Dean announced the beginnings of Democracy for America, the new organization grown from his presidential campaign.
The agenda for this meeting will focus on:
1. Identification of initiatives. What are the three objectives and initiatives most important for DFA/Change for Kentucky to take on in the next six months (before Nov. 2)?
2. Growth and Outreach. How can DFA/Change for Kentucky reach out and grow our organization? What partnership opportunities are out there with other progressive and grass-roots organizations (locally and nationally).
3. Precinct Leadership Elections. We will answer questions about the April 17 neighborhood precinct elections, our chance for "Dean Democrats" to take a larger role in the leadership of the Fayette Co. Democratic Party. IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING ON APRIL 17, PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND.
It is April now, and we still have a job to do. Our support of Gov. Dean put backbone and elbow grease into a Democratic Party that had lost its way, and it was our courage and commitment that defined this presidential campaign (no matter the outcome of the primaries.)
We need to get back into the game, right now, each of us. If we stand still, the President wins again in November; and I guarantee that the disappointment we all felt in January, no matter how strong and how heartfelt, will pale in comparison.
See you Wednesday.
