As I look around to other state and local political websites, I see a dearth of real back-and-forth communication. There are a few blogs, yes; and a few issue-centric websites and any number of different discussion lists and calls to action. But what I continue to fail to see is a candid (and public) dialogue between those who want change and those who can affect change.
Perhaps we can do something about that.
Over the coming months, and leading into this election cycle, Change for Kentucky will invite a number of "Guest Bloggers" from around the state to come to our website and blog about WHY change is important for Kentucky (and Kentucky politics) and HOW we can make this change occur.
We seek a wide variety of participants: community leaders, candidates for office, political activists, media representatives, business leaders, and regular people (like us). These will not be "vote for me" pitches, or "come join a protest on this day" announcements. It's about "talking to" and not "talking at."
Along with these posts, we then need every person out there to TALK BACK; to voice your opinion or your opposition, to candidly speak about the problems AND the solutions. It only works if there is a real dialogue, and I truly believe people will listen and our movement will grow because of this.
So, the question: Whom should we invite?

Another community leader who is respected and facing a big hurdle is Pres. Todd, because UK is one of, if not the, largest employer in Lexington.
Mike Best of the Lexington Farmer's Market Co-op.
Ed McClanahan, because he's a great writer.
Heck, Wendell Berry, for the same reason.

Great sense of humor -- I love their latest bills to protect the "sanctity of marriage" - by outlawing divorce; by outlawing marriages between lawyers and doctors, or between journalists and a member of the governors' staff. You also gotta love the one criminalizing adultery and imposing jail terms and fines!

To start with, the reasons (beliefs or solutions) people supported Dean for should be the basis of involvement.
Most importantly, the corruption of the Democratic Party, that is voter's perception of the party, and politics in general, should be a priority.
Additionally, Instant Runoff Voting should be the first goal, especially to prevent Nader from being a spoiler, thusstopping the return of Bush to office and not pitting progressives against progressives. (I would prefer to vote for Nader over Kerry, if not Kucinich, who is still in the race, for first choice if possible.)
The Kentucky legislature is the place to start.
An invite to the Kucinich people, Leftist Student Union at UK, Green Thumb, Sierra Club, Heartwood, Anti-Patriot Act group, CKCPJ, the progressive voter registration group might be wise!, plus many more local groups and individuals
Beware of the infiltration of Democratic machine hierarchy actually/purposely joining to sabatoge your efforts.
They did that with such a group as you are starting after the Eugene McCarthy and Robert Kennedy groups tried to get together with Humphrey's defeat. The Democratic Party is corrupt and vicious in their control/power plays and riddle with corporate or other special interests
